Description
Fort Gillem Army Base opened in 1941 and was named after Lt General Alvan C Gillem Jr., the former commander of the Third Army based at Ft McPherson. In 2005 the Us Department of Defense recommended its decommission as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission. The 1,168 acre Base officially closed on June 3 2011 and was subsequently sold to the the City of Forest Park. Today, the property has been transformed into a fully zoned and entitled e-commerce and distribution juggernaut called Gillem Logistics.
