Belvidere is located in north central Illinois 12 miles from Rockford, Illinois’ third largest city, and 75 miles from downtown Chicago. Belvidere is the county seat of Boone County, which is included in the Rockforde Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the Rockford MSA had a population of nearly 350,000. The chief industries in and around Belvidere include machine tools, heat furnaces, automobiles, bottle caps, canned and frozen vegetables (General Mills - Green Giant), the North American Headquarters of NDK, a synthetic quartz manufacturer, microwave paper products, rubber, wire and wire coating, fertilizers, and chemicals, automotive and appliance trim, beauty salon equipment and wooden panels and trusses for the construction industry.
