Lakeville is a southern suburb of Minneapolis-St. Paul and is located in Dakota County, the third most populous county in Minnesota. The city is one of the fastest-growing in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area with a population increase of 10.6% since 2010. Much of Lakeville’s rapid growth can be attributed to its location off Interstate 35 just south of Minneapolis and St. Paul and the convenience it provides commuters who don’t want to live in the city. As its name suggests, Lakeville contains several lakes and small ponds including Lake Marion and Orchard Lake, which are used heavily for recreation such as fishing, boating, and swimming. Finally, the city prides itself on highly ranked school districts, which have received state and national recognition for the quality of its educational programs.
