The central, northern UP is about 6.5 hours from Chicago, and 5 hours from Milwaukee and Madison. It is about a 7 hour drive from Detroit and the Twin Cities.. The area is served by Sawyer international Airport that is only 10 minutes away. Delta and American Airlines provide daily service. Marquette boasts some the most expansive and wilderness integrated mountain biking trails in the country. Other local summer activities include hiking the various trails, exploring the numerous waterfalls, and both inland and big lake fishing. Excellent fly fishing in the area as well. You can sail on Lake Superior, or explore the many islands by boat or jet ski. Marquette has many summer music and art festivals along the breezy shores of Lake Superior. In the winter, 20 minutes away is Mount Marquette, the local ski hill that gets lots of lake effect snow. This area has snow when many of the areas of the country do not. There are endless snowmobile and x-country ski trails was well.
