Chicken Express is a regional chain of fast food restaurants concentrated in the Southern United States. The restaurant serves fried chicken, catfish, chicken tenders, and side dishes. The chain is also known for their iced tea, which they sell by the gallon. The company was founded in March 1988 by Richard and Nancy Stuart in Benbrook, Texas. The Stuarts expanded the Chicken Express name and product originally by being one of the very first fast food chicken delivery businesses, making their slogan “our chicken can’t fly, so we deliver.” The delivery business was very successful for spreading the word and product, so from 1990 until 1994 all new franchises utilized the dine-in, drive-thru, or “delivery” concept. Now with the expanded stores the major customer base is drive-thru; dine-in; carhop (at select locations) and catering for any occasion or tailgating event.
