With an overall population of over 6.4 million throughout the 9-county Metropolitan Statistical Area, Houston is the 5th largest metro area within the United States. Houston' s historical population growth has been robust over 26% growth since 2000 with future projections to elevate the city by an additional 2.66 million people by 2030. The city of Mobile is the county seat of Mobile County, Alabama. The city' s population was 195,111 as of the 2010 United States Census, making it the third most populous city in Alabama, only behind Birmingham and Montgomery. Mobile serves as the state' s only saltwater port, located at the head of Mobile Bay. The Port of Mobile has always played a key role in the economic health of the city since its beginning, and is supplemented by the growing sectors of aerospace and retail. In July 2015, Mobile became home to the first Airbus production site in America. This $600 million, 116-acre plant has revived the community, bringing thousands of jobs and mass visibility to the city. As one of the Gulf Coast' s culture centers, Mobile houses several art museums, a symphony orchestra, a professional opera, a professional ballet company, and a large concentration of historic architecture. Additionally, Mobile is home of the oldest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States.
