Downtown Tampa continues to grow, bolstered by a fast pace of multifamily and office development activity, in addition to a steady increase in the number of Bay Area residents that call the urban core home. Downtown Tampa is also one of the metro area’s premier cultural and entertainment areas. The David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts has become a hub for music, theatre, and arts education since it opened in 1987. One of the largest performing arts complexes in the nation, the center has welcomed nearly 16 million visitors in that time. It offers a Broadway series and averages 1,500 events each season.

A few blocks to the east in the Channelside area, Amalie Arena has hosted numerous high-profile events including the NHL All-Star Game, the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, the NCAA Women’s Final Four, the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, and the Republican National Convention, in addition to many high-profile concerts.
