About Downtown Tampa
Downtown Tampa continues to grow, bolstered by a fast pace of multifamily and office development activity, in addition to a steady increase in the number of Bay Area residents that call the urban core home. The area is expanding in multiple directions, from Ybor City on the northwest and the Heights Union project to the $3 billion Water Street District adjacent to the popular Channelside area. Downtown Tampa’s office market is one of the most recognizable office nodes in the state of Florida. Tampa is somewhat unusual, as it features two roughly equivalent office districts, with Westshore a fierce rival for downtown Tampa. A few blocks to the east in the Channelside area, Amalie Arena has hosted numerous high-profile events including the NHL All-Star Game, the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, the NCAA Women’s Final Four, the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, and the Republican National Convention, in addition to many high-profile concerts. In past years the arena has welcomed Elton John, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, and many other music dignitaries. The arena is also home to the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning.
