ABOUT THE PROPERTY

* Silver Star for Eco- Friendly. McCali Manor is rich in history. The first portion of the building was built in the late 1700s to early 1800s as a tavern that sat on what was and still is the town square. Notable history includes the fact that the building sits on what was the original Wild West crossroad. Were the Whites to build beyond that crossroad, the Indians would fight Whites tooth and nail. In 1910 the building was doubled in size to become Dr Horner’s office and 3 story home. In 1951 it was donated to the Elks Club. The original hearth kitchen was torn down to make way for a 45x45 ballroom. In 1971, in answer to the Women’s Movement, a small side section was added to the building where women would be permitted to stay. In 2009 Jane Altman purchased the building which was in dire need of repair and upgrade. The building was gutted back to the brick and completely rebuilt with modern technology and with zoned utilities. A new slate roof was installed. It earned the Silver Star Eco Energy Award in 2016. We encourage you to come feel the elegance, traditional, and cohesive design techniques used to make this building the star of the town. It has been featured in TV Ads, the front cover of the phone book, used by the historical society as an example of what is possible.
