The Nehemiah Brainerd B&B is a beautifully restored 18th century post and beam home. The main house with its two suites and two guest rooms along with its two guest houses is situated in the Haddam Historic District on five park-like acres on a bluff above the Connecticut River and Haddam Meadows State Park. The Nehemiah Brainerd House B&B opened for business 8 ½ years ago and has had the continued support of the town of Haddam and its citizens and has become sort of an icon in town. The Laurel Cottage Guest House behind a stand of tall pines, has been restored and expanded while still maintaining its 1932 charm. The Cottage sports its original gleaming pine paneling along with reproduction William Morris wallpapers from the turn of the century. Rooms include a charming fully equipped kitchen, a stunning bathroom with double size pedestal bathtub and a large subway tiled shower, a great room with gas-fired stone fireplace (seasonal), a sunroom with spectacular views, and a private stone patio with gas barbecue grill. The views from the sunroom windows across the Connecticut River to the hills beyond are spectacular in any season Built in 2015 in traditional New England style to compliment the eighteenth century architecture of the main house, the Carriage House has two lovely bedrooms furnished in antiques with queen size beds, a beautifully appointed Jack and Jill bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen. The Great Room with its soaring cathedral ceiling provides a spacious lounging and eating area with beautifully appointed furnishings, and a gas-fired fireplace as the focal point. French doors from the Great Room open to a large deck for al fresco dining with sweeping views of the Connecticut River. There are three heated garage bays below. Located just five minutes from the historic Goodspeed Opera House, a short distance from Gillette Castle State Park, the Essex Steam Train, and the historic town of Essex, the Nehemiah Brainerd House is also conveniently located just two hours midway between Boston and New York City. In 2006 the house was featured on the HGTV program "If Walls Could Talk." The show ran for a couple of years. We have a 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor and have received many awards including the Governor’s Tourism Volunteer of the Year Award and Yankee Magazine’s “Best of New England” award for our Laurel Cottage.
