Howard County is giving a tax credit to properties specifically on Rte 1 with less than 10 acres. The property tax credit is 125% of the verified expenses for approved improvements covering the land and/or building structures.The credit is applied to the annual property tax and the property tax can be carried over and applied to subsequent taxes for up to 4 years if the credit is greater than a single year's taxes. Besides automotive, tire and used auto-part and dealership-related businesses, there are many permitted uses for this property which include but are not limited to restaurants with the consumption of alcohol on the premises, restaurants with a single drive-thru lane, carryout, dry cleaners, printers, biomedical labs, day care or senior care, data processing and/or telecommunications centers, medical and veterinary offices, office and professional facilities, pet grooming facilities, commercial communications antennas, religious facilities, banks and financial institutions with a single drive-thru lane, flex space, conference center, country inn, etc.
