The Kekaha Mill, once part of the former Kekaha Sugar Company, spans 2 parcels with a combined acreage of approximately 20.85 acres. Kekaha Sugar Company traces its history back to 1878 when 50 acres of cane were planted on leased crown lands in west Kauai. In 1880, the Kekaha Sugar Company was founded, and 3 years later, the company produced 1,000 tons of sugar. By 1983 the tonnage increased to 54,819. At the height of its employment, the Kekaha Sugar Company employed approximately 2,000 employees. The final harvest occurred in 2000. Today some of the original buildings and the smoke stack remain.
