BUSINESS DESCRIPTION

The seller’s son was an experienced beer brewer but was ready to take the next step in his career and open his own production facility. With the help of his father (the current business owner) they opened Leaky Roof in 2014. The products were well-received in the marketplace and they expanded distribution throughout Missouri. Unfortunately, the son recently passed away.

The business is still operating, but hours and production varies.

The company manufactures and sells a variety of alcoholic beverages. The featured ingredient is honey which is mixed with water and yeast then fermented make a product commonly known as mead. When other ingredients like cider, fresh berries and/or spices are added, you get products more precisely known as cyser, methyglin, or melomel.

The company recently began brewing and selling beer.

The assets of the business are selling for substantially less than the seller's estimated fair market value of $269,000.

The real estate is available through VR's sister company Professional Real Estate, LLC for $212,500. The property recently appraised for $360,000.

The sale of this business does not include inventory. Any raw ingredients or product in-process can be purchased in a separate agreement with the seller. Any finished alcoholic products must be purchased through the distributor.

Competition
The primary competition for packaged mead includes Camelot, Vikings Blood, Sam Adam’s Angry Orchard and Martin Brothers. The seller’s feel like they have an advantage over those competitors who are only available in bottles. Leaky Roof offers most of their products in cans or on tap. They also think their products are of a better quality and have the added advantage of being locally made. Generally, they also face competition from craft beers, hard ciders and seltzers. While these are not the same product as mead, they often have greater sales suppo
Growth & Expansion
While the distributors in the various territories are marketing the company’s products, the seller feels like they don’t get the attention the other vendors in the distributor’s portfolio get. The seller and brewer feel that they do a better job when they can visit the bars/restaurants/liquor stores themselves, but they didn’t have the time to do the production work and visit each territory with enough frequency. They recommend that a buyer make time for this sales work or hire a sales force to supplement the work of the distributors.
