Overview

Footprints Floors is a unique and innovative business model revolutionizing the flooring industry. While our name may sound like a traditional flooring company, we are far from it! Ultimately, we are a labor company specializing in the installation of floors, not the sale of flooring products.

At Footprints Floors, our Franchise Owners meet with customers, complete the installation estimate, and then allow the customer to source the actual flooring from anywhere they see fit. Once the estimate is performed and the job is booked, Franchise Owners manage subcontractors who complete the labor and spend their time as the main point of contact for the customer, ensuring a smooth and professional experience.

By operating this type of model, Franchise Owners are home-based with no need for expensive real estate or complicated leases, they do not have any overhead as they have no need for flooring inventory, and they do not have any employees as the labor is completed by 10–99 subcontractors.

If that wasn’t enough to make the business attractive, the Footprints Floors corporate team also handles the majority of the marketing, helping Franchise Owners find new customers, and runs a call center that fields all customer queries and completes the scheduling. At Footprints Floors, we have truly laid down all the necessary footwork to ensure our Owners’ success!

Our customers source their own flooring, meaning Franchise Owners never need to have inventory on hand. With this model, there is no rent, no build-out, no HR costs, and no inventory, making our overhead extremely low and margins very attractive.

Control & Predictability: Footprints Floors is an appointment-based business, meaning all scheduling is done around the Franchise Owners’ availability, allowing them to create their hours and enjoy the work/life balance they desire. Many of our Franchise Owners were drawn to our business based on the flexibility of the operations and the ability to spend more time with their families.

Lead Generation Assistance: Our corporate team is dedicated to ensuring the success of Franchise Owners by helping them obtain customers, both before the business even launches and on an ongoing basis. We create and manage specific online construction portals that have been tested by our corporate locations, turn on and manage Google Ads, manage all social media platforms, and our preferred partners design websites specific to each location while completing all upfront and continuous SEO work.

Call Center: Once the corporate team generates customers from the various platforms above, they are directed to our call center, which answers all incoming calls and sets customer appointments that meet the Franchise Owner’s schedule. Not only does this significantly reduce the workload for our Owners, but it also guarantees every customer’s first contact with Footprints Floors is extremely professional.

Training and Support

For our initial training, we host Franchise Owners at our corporate headquarters in Colorado for two weeks. After that, they go back to their territory and run their Footprints Floors business for 6–7 weeks while gaining true on-the-job experience. After this period, we invite them back to Colorado for an additional week of training, covering specifics related to their experience working in the business. We have found this type of training to be extremely successful and something our Owners rave about!

We see it as our responsibility to help Franchise Owners maximize their revenues and productivity. Because of this, outside of lead generation assistance and our call center we also offer regular support calls, webinars, and training modules. We also foster a support network among our existing Franchise Owners. Like any family, our Owners constantly look out for each other, offering a unique support system rarely found in the franchise industry.

Our field support comes mostly from our network of Franchise Owners who communicate daily through Google Chats. The Google Chats groups are broken down by region, and we have paid consultants available to answer any questions or issues that arise.

We assist in the creation and maintenance of promotional materials including direct mail and print ads, consumer relations, website development, search engine optimization, and the development of technology. We require Franchise Owners spend $1,000 per territory on local marketing.

History

Footprints Floors Founder and CEO Bryan Park attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, and served this country in Omaha, Nebraska. Like most who serve, Bryan’s military experience strengthened his belief in, and commitment to, integrity, duty, and leadership. Once Bryan completed his time, he needed to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. He had recently gone back to night school and was searching for an opportunity to make money during the day.

A prime opportunity fell into Bryan’s lap when one night he and his wife went out for dinner and left their 3 puppies at home. While they were out, the puppies completely destroyed the family's carpet, forcing them to hire a flooring company to fix the damage. While the installer was at his home, Bryan noticed how easy the job looked and inquired how much the man earned. When he told him he was making a significant income installing floors, Bryan knew this was the ideal option to do during the day while completing school at night.

Bryan began working for a flooring company, installing and sanding floors. Within a couple of years, he moved up to a sales role and from there to a General Manager. Unfortunately, the timing was not on his side as 2008 hit and the flooring company wasn’t able to pay Bryan for 6 months of work. Being the loyal person he is, he decided to stick it out, thinking things would work out, and he would be paid the salary he was owed. To his dismay, the company ended up laying him off in November 2008 and eventually went under. They refused to pay him back but allowed him to take a set of flooring gear when he left.

On December 9, 2008, Bryan launched Footprints Floors in quite possibly the single worst month since the Great Depression to start a home improvement business. He was $40,000 in credit card debt from not being paid for 6 months, had a wife who was 8 ½ months pregnant, a 2-year-old, 4 dogs, and 4 cats all in an 800-square-foot home.

In the beginning, Bryan and his father-in-law would walk the neighborhood hanging flyers on doors, but it was not until February that someone called for a job that Bryan completed himself. He took the money he made and invested it back into marketing, and from there, Footprints Floors took off. By May, they had enough sales to have 4 different jobs running simultaneously and subcontractors helping to complete the work.

In 2013, Bryan began to offer franchises only in Colorado, and by 2016 Colorado was completely sold out. It wasn’t until 2018 that Footprints Floors decided to expand nationally, growing from a presence in one state to 18 in just two short years. In the last few years, Bryan has found a calling in business mentorship, having now helped several first-time business owners find levels of success that they did not previously believe could be possible!
