Bio
Abra holds a license as a Real Estate Instructor in Alabama. Her career commenced in 2001 with Anthony L. Barnes & Associates, P.C. REALTORS, under the guidance of her father, Anthony L. Barnes. Currently overseeing a team of over 50 agents at Barnes & Associates, REALTORS, Abra leads a full-service real estate brokerage specializing in Residential Sales, Commercial Sales and leasing, Development Consulting, and Acquisitions. Despite managing residential agents, her primary focus lies in commercial real estate and development. In January 2019, Abra established the Barnes School of Real Estate, offering courses in Pre-License, Post-License, and Continued Education.
A graduate of The University of Alabama with a B.S. Degree in Marketing/Fashion Merchandising, Abra has achieved notable recognition, including the First Time Homebuyer REALTOR of the Year Award for the State of Alabama in 2004. She was also named Broker/Agent of the Year in 2007, a member of the Birmingham Association of REALTORS Club of Excellence for Production, and a Past Director for the Alabama Association of REALTORS and the Birmingham Association of REALTORS. Abra secured the 2020 Broker of the Year award for the Birmingham Association of REALTORS. Despite these accolades, her primary focus remains on keeping her client's needs and best interests at the forefront while supporting and educating her team of Professional Realtors.
In addition to her commitment to exceptional customer service, Abra is an active community activist. She currently serves as a Commissioner with the Housing Authority Birmingham District and is a Member of the Birmingham Design Review Committee. Over the years, she has been involved in various community organizations, co-hosting and sponsoring a real estate segment for 98.7 KISS FM and participating as a Past Board Member for the Birmingham Chapter SCLC, Civil Rights Activist Committee, and the SYLA (Supreme Youth Leadership Academy). Abra founded the Magic City Bike Club in 2014, and in 2016, she initiated Urban Blessings, a Random Act of Kindness Service Project under Barnes & Associates, REALTORS. Urban Blessings provides hot meals, resources, toiletries, and more to low-income and homeless individuals every quarter.
Abra's commitment to community service extends further with her involvement in the UNCF Masked Gala, raising over $500,000 in scholarship money for low-income minority students in 2013. In 2018, she opened The Avondale Gallery & Loft, an Upscale Event Center, and in 2019, Abra was appointed as the Chair of The City of Birmingham, Alabama's Inaugural Small Business Council. In 2023, she expanded her event facilities with the opening of Avondale West, reflecting her dedication not only to her clients and agents but also to building a better, more vibrant community. Abra's passion for the forward movement of Birmingham is evident in her impactful work.
