Bio
Chris Stai is the Managing Director of Global Healthcare Services at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank. Along with his partners, Todd Perman in Atlanta and Garth Hogan in Newport Beach, he is responsible for overseeing all healthcare real estate transactions and capital market initiatives within the company. In this capacity, he assists healthcare providers, private and institutional investors and developers in financing, acquiring and disposing of healthcare real estate assets in order to maximize value, reduce cost and achieve utilization strategies.
His seventeen years of experience in advising investors, developers, healthcare systems and hospitals in structuring complex real estate financing, development, and monetization transactions is broad based and extensive. Before being named Managing Director of Global Healthcare Services with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, he was the Senior Vice President of Healthcare and Medical Properties with Grubb & Ellis Company. Prior to this, Mr. Stai was Director of Acquisitions for Healthcare Trust of America (HTA), a publicly-traded real estate investment trust that acquires and operates institutional quality healthcare real estate assets. During his tenure at HTA, Mr. Stai completed approximately 35 separate transactions, acquiring approximately 100 medical office buildings and healthcare related assets throughout the United States. This portfolio consisted of approximately 5 million square feet and had a total value of approximately $1.3 billion.
Prior to HTA, Mr. Stai led other commercial real estate investment companies in growing their portfolio of commercial real estate assets throughout the West Coast, which involved acquisition and asset monetization strategies, development and redevelopment, debt and equity financing, and the formation and negotiation of joint venture transactions.
Education
Mr. Stai holds a B.A. degree in Economics with a minor in Accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition, he is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive status) that specialized in advising clients involved in real estate investment, development, REITs and tax advisory services. Mr. Stai is a licensed California Real Estate Broker.
