Chris Smiles is a Senior Vice President with CBRE’s Capital Markets Group. Chris leads the firm’s South Florida multifamily investment sales team, with a focus on serving CBRE’s institutional clients. Chris has 30 years of real estate experience, centering primarily on the multifamily investment and development business. Prior to joining CBRE, Chris served as President of Multifamily for Woolbright Development, where he spearheaded the development of the firm’s multifamily investment platform. Before being tapped by Woolbright, Chris spent three years as Managing Director at Waypoint Residential, where he directed all multifamily acquisitions for the state of Florida and oversaw the purchase of more than 1,500 apartment units. Prior to joining Waypoint, Chris spent a combined 23 years at Gables Residential and predecessor Trammell Crow Residential south Florida where he achieved partner status in 1992. At Gables, Chris led new business development and investment, specializing in receiverships, acquisitions, dispositions, and property management. As principal real estate broker for the state of Florida, Chris exclusively listed and sold 32 multifamily projects totaling more than $1 billion at Gables and Trammell Crow Residential. Chris also worked closely with the firm’s institutional clients to procure property management assignments for more than 40,000 multifamily units, and to direct the acquisition, joint venture, and value-added renovation of over $300 million worth of property. Chris has worked on several receiverships over the course of his career, including his appointment by the Supreme Court of Delaware as receiver of a six-property, multi-state apartment portfolio.
