Bio
Gene has been working as a realtor since 1976 and is actively involved in various real estate organizations. He is a member of the Commercial Alliance of Realtors, the Commercial Board of Realtors, and the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors. In his efforts to bring commercial organizations closer, Gene has been part of the CAR Political Affairs Committee from 2008 to 2016 and the Professional Standards Committee from 2013 to 2015. Additionally, he served on CBOR's Board of Directors from 2012 to 2014 and participated in its Legislative and Financial Committees. In recognition of his contributions, Gene was honored as CBOR's Realtor of the Year in 2014.
Gene's involvement with the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors (GRAR) dates to 1980, where he has served on various committees and task forces, including the Board of Directors, the MLS Exchange Board of Directors (as President), and currently on the Government Affairs Committee. He was named Realtor of the Year for GRAR in 2001 and 2016.
At the Michigan Realtors (MR), Gene served on the RPAC Trustees from 2002 to 2007, the Public Policy Committee from 2012 to 2015, and the Finance Committee from 2012 to 2016. He also contributed to the Convention Task Force in 2013. Gene was elected to the MR Board of Directors in 2008 and 2010, holding the positions of Treasurer-elect in 2012, Treasurer in 2013, President-elect in 2014, and serving as MR President in 2015 during its 100th year.
On the national level, as a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), Gene participated in the Land Use, Property Rights, and Environment Committee from 2004 to 2016, the Commercial Committee from 2013 to 2016, and the Board of Directors from 2014 to 2016.
With a background encompassing experience in land development, residential and commercial sales, leasing, management, and training, Gene emphasizes the importance of good policy. He has actively engaged with local, state, and national politicians and officials. Looking ahead, Gene is eager to continue collaborating with fellow Realtors across the state to enhance the well-being of members and communities.
