Bio
George Cohen is a native Savannahian, with a family history of 145 years of service to Savannah via their Lady Jane stores. Displaying considerable business skills since he founded the Shezerade Modeling School and Agency when he was 17, George has continuously sought to enhance his acumen through various business ventures. In 1982, he co-founded the company Doctor Windshield, which ran successfully for over ten years. At the age of 21, George then moved to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, sharpening his knowledge of the breadth of the economy and making valuable contacts.
With extensive work history related to Commercial Development and Land Use Planning, George’s prior experiences serve as a strong support to the real estate industry. George worked as a Land Use and Commercial Development Consultant in the Wireless Telecommunications Industry for ten years. This permitted him to be qualified in areas for site selection including industrial, commercial, business, and residential. In 1996, George became a licensed real estate agent. His prior work experiences and participation with jurisdictional and neighborhood associations gave George an understanding of how the real estate market works while also affording sensitivity towards the needs of customers and clients.
For over 12 years, George has had the opportunity to work for Engel & Völkers®. Formerly Mopper-Stapen, REALTORS ®, one of Savannah’s top real estate agencies with outstanding production on exclusive properties in or around the Savannah area including the Islands, Westside and the Historic District. Currently, the company is ranked by Leading Real Estate Companies of the World as a premier choice in the Savannah Market. George currently holds licenses in both Georgia and South Carolina. George is recognized as one of Engel & Völkers® leading sales associates. During his first year at Mopper-Stapen, REALTORS ®, George was named New Agent of the Year in 2003. Also that year, he earned the Distinguished Sales Society by the Savannah Board of REALTORS ®.
In 2004, George was awarded the Graduate REALTOR ® Institute Designation (GRI) which is a prestigious, nationally recognized course within the real estate industry that offers 90 class hours of in-depth training pertaining to contracts, government effects on real estate, real estate investment, Financing, Real Property Law, Fair Housing, plus more. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 George was one of only three real estate agents in the Savannah market awarded the Distinguished Sales Society (Million Dollar Club) in both Residential and Commercial Sales. He earned the Silver Top Producer award at Engel & Völkers® for 2005-2007 and 2013 Real Estate Sales Production and continues a prodigious sales record, with numerous awards to this day.
George is a SCAD expert! One daughter graduated college at SCAD in 2011, and is currently a successful freelance motion graphic artist in NYC, and his wife is a SCAD alumnus. He has worked with numerous parents, students and faculty over the years and is knowledgeable about the campus, and how it relates to those attending or working at one of America’s top colleges. George’s awards and recognition demonstrate his professionalism and his extensive knowledge of the Savannah market. These skills have produced repeat buyers and sellers for George. Continually, George strives to improve his skills.
If you are seeking local knowledge of the market and how the rhythmic turns work in Savannah, then George is the one to know. George currently serves as a Commissioner on the Chatham County Historic Preservation Commission since 2005. His appointment to that Board was extended through 2016 and has held the position of Chairman and Vice-Chairman. In his spare time, George is mad about finding “live jazz” performances and is a host for a local Public Radio Station Jazz music radio show called “Cooking with Coastal Jazz”. He loves the mountains in north Georgia and North Carolina.
