Bio
James (Jim) Helsel has been in the real estate profession since 1975. He affiliated with Helsel Inc. upon graduating from Lycoming College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. His primary focus has been commercial/industrial sales, leasing, property management, as well as real estate investment analysis with counseling as an adjunct to his efforts. Jim is a past president of the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors, the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, and was Treasurer of the National Association of Realtors from 2008 to 2010. He was awarded (twice) the Certified Property Manager of the Year award by the Delaware Valley Chapter of IREM. In 2018, he was the President of the Delaware Valley Chapter and has served on the Executive Committee and Governing Council of IREM National. He currently serves as IREM's Region 2 Vice President at the National level from 2019 to 2020. He also serves as the 2020 President of the Real Estate Business Institute (REBI), an Affiliate of the National Association of Realtors with membership exceeding 37,000.
Jim was named Realtor of the Year by the Greater Harrisburg (1985) and Pennsylvania (2001) Associations of Realtors and received the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from these two groups, as well as from the National Association of Realtors. Jim has taught thousands of Realtors across Pennsylvania courses leading to their GRI designation. He co-authors Modern Real Estate Practice in Pennsylvania – the most used book for pre-licensing courses in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Jim is active in his community, serving as Chairperson of the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority Board (SARAA), as a Trustee of the Cornwall Manor Foundation Trust, as a member of the Government Affairs Committee of the Harrisburg Area Regional Chamber of Commerce, and has served the United Way of the Capital Region.
