Worked for the Pickering Firm in structural engineering department 1981 - 1983
Started VCM in July of 1983 with Don, Joan, and Georgann Smith.
Joel Smith's first project under VCM was the development of 100 acres at Covington Pike and Elmore. He has also developed a number of properties on Germantown Parkway and 70 acres on Apping Road.
In recent years, he has gone from developing land and selling properties to building commercial buildings and selling or leasing them.
