Bio
John D. Shlesinger is a Vice Chairman with CB Richard Ellis and, along with Sam Holmes, heads the firm's office brokerage and corporate services operations in Atlanta. He is responsible for overseeing CBRE's long-term strategies and day-to-day operations regarding tenant representation services.
Much of Shlesinger's success is derived from his ability to provide his clients with a sophisticated arsenal of services, from strategic planning and comprehensive financial analysis focused on balance sheet implications to business plan consulting and demographic analysis, of potential customer bases and other decisions that can impact the bottom line. This sophisticated approach to business allows CBRE to assist clients in a long-term, strategic consulting role, versus simply finding space and negotiating a lease document from a one-off transaction perspective.
Before joining CBRE, Shlesinger was with Insignia/ESG, where he helped grow the firm's Atlanta presence over five years to become the city's top office brokerage firm. Before joining Insignia in late 1997, he was a Senior Director with Cushman & Wakefield's Atlanta office, where he began his career. During his 15-year tenure with that firm, Shlesinger became the top producing broker in Atlanta, and one of the leading brokers for the firm nationally. Additionally, he and Holmes were the first recipients of that firm's National Quality Service award, which was given to the broker who received the highest service ratings from their clients.
For the past three years, Shlesinger and Holmes have been named the Top Tenant Representative Brokers in the Atlanta (an award they have previously won on numerous occasions). Additionally, in 2000 they received the Alvin B. Cates award from the Commercial Board for the sale and subsequent repositioning of the Macy's project in downtown Atlanta. In 1990 and 1993, Shlesinger and Holmes were awarded the "Leasing Transaction of the Year" by Ernst & Young and the Atlanta Business Chronicle. In addition to being a lifetime member of the Commercial Board's Million Dollar Club and a recipient of the Board's Phoenix Award, he was Chairman of the 2000 Million Dollar Club and is Vice President and a member of the organization's Board of Directors.
Shlesinger has been nationally recognized for his success in Commercial Property News ("Hot Brokers," March 1997, 1998, and 2002), Real Estate Forum ("Top Ten Tenant Rep Brokers In The Country," January 1996 and 1999) and GRID Magazine ("Top Tenant Rep Broker in Atlanta," March 2001).
Active in civic affairs, Shlesinger is on the board of Goodwill Industries and St. Joseph's Hospital. He is a member of the Woodruff Arts Center Technology Task Force and chairs Aid Atlanta's second largest annual fund-raising event. An Atlanta native, Shlesinger is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and received his MBA from the University of Georgia in 1983. He is married with two children.
