Bio
John Thomas is a life-long resident of Athens and has been a real estate professional for over 30 years. His college studies were interrupted by military service during the late 60’s. When discharged, he returned to Athens, passed the R.E. exam, and finished his degree with real estate sales helping supplement his GI bill education assistance. Upon receiving his BBA from UGA, he returned for additional post-grad education coursework to be certified as a post-secondary educator. His first teaching position was the Instructor of Marketing and Business Management at Savannah Tech. While in Savannah he applied for and was accepted to and attended the UGA School of Law. Life events led to his return to teaching and the business of real estate.
In the 70’s his company, Earthworks, specialized in the design and construction of passive solar homes and homestead development. One of the homes was featured in an issue of Southern Living magazine, highlighting the energy conservation features incorporated into its design.
During the 80’s, because of his background in education, John was approached and agreed to be one of the first certified real estate instructors in Georgia. He was later commissioned to develop the initial classes and program for the then new Appraiser Certification Course for the State of Georgia.
John has been a real estate broker since 1990 and has utilized his extensive background in education and real estate to assist clients and a new generation of realtors now associated with Athenstown Properties in achieving their respective real estate goals.
