Mr. J.R. Chantengco is the President and Managing Director of The Triwest Group, a real estate and consulting firm. It is parent company, Triwest Financial, has been approved as a Community Development Entity under the New Markets Tax Credit Program, and expects to raise approximately $10 M in tax credit investments in 2004 and 2005.
Since 1989, his family has overseen almost 900 real estate transactions, managed 500 apartment and hotel units, leased 250,000 square feet of commercial-industrial space, and developed 250 housing units-- totaling $150 M in value.
In 2001, Gov. Gray Davis appointed Mr. Chantengco to the California Housing Partnership Corporation, the state's affordable housing agency. CHPC is a statewide, quasi-public agency providing technical assistance, financial, and development services to nonprofit developers, municipalities, and government agencies. This year, he completed his post as Secretary of the board under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Before that, Mr. Chantengco was a broker with CB Richard Ellis, where he was involved in over 4,000 lease audits including the merger of National Health Laboratories with Roche Pharmaceuticals. He oversaw the sale of a major office building to CALPERS for over $16 M. He was a partner of Pacific Rim Century, a private real estate trust that raised approximately $2 M in equity capital.
In 1993, he was City Housing Commissioner for the City of Chula Vista and served on the Eastlake Affordable Housing Task Force, where he saw the approval of 600 units of multi-family and senior housing projects.
Mr. Chantengco was a member of the County Assessment Appeals Board and Southeastern San Diego Economic Development Corp. Revolving Loan Committee. He now Chairs the San Diego Community Housing Corp., the largest certified housing development company involved in residential homeownership, senior housing, and job retraining in the region.
Mr. Chantengco is a licensed real estate broker with the California Dept. of Real Estate and holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Realtor designation from the CCIM Institute in Chicago, IL. He is also a licensed RCFE administrator and is involved in several senior living projects.
Mr. Chantengco is a Graduate of the Advanced Management College Program at Stanford's Business School and the Community Economic Development Program at San Diego State University. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Diego.
In 2001, he was awarded a Eureka Community Fellowship in Washington, D.C. for his leadership on affordable housing and community development.
A native San Diegan, he enjoys scuba diving, surfing, and golfing.
