Lennard Axinn is a Long Island residential real estate developer with a background in commercial development and management. Since 1993, Mr. Axinn has been a partner in Island Estates, a real estate development firm which engages in a wide range of residential construction from “mid-priced” single family communities to luxury housing to affordable apartments for seniors. Prior to that, Mr. Axinn was an active participant in real estate development partnerships, building speculative office buildings for their own portfolio. Mr. Axinn handled the leasing directly to such tenants as Sony, IBM, General Electric, Philip Morris, Metropolitan Life, Equitable, Volvo, Nabisco, Getty, Nikon, and many others.
Mr. Axinn is also an active participant in charities which address shelter issues for the homeless and those needing affordable housing. Charitable involvements include being a past President and current Board member of The Interfaith Nutrition Network which operates 18 soup kitchens, four homeless shelters, and a long-term housing program across Long Island. Mr. Axinn is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Community Development Corporation of Long Island which creates and facilitates the construction and operation of affordable housing, as well as enabling low and middle income individuals to start and succeed at owning their own businesses through financial and advisory assistance.
Mr. Axinn served as past president of LIBI and continues to be a Life Director of the Board of Long Island Builders Institute, a 650-member trade organization representing the residential construction industry.
Mr. Axinn has served on the Suffolk County Workforce Housing Commission, was Chairman of the Town of North Hempstead Affordable Senior Citizen Housing Advisory Committee, and is a member of the Board of Sustainable Long Island.
Mr. Axinn, a native Long Islander and graduate of Amherst College, is proud to have raised three daughters, two of whom now work with him at Island Estates.
