Luis Riu Güell, born in Palma, Spain in 1960, is the CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts and a third-generation leader of the family-founded company. A graduate in Business Administration from the University of Barcelona, he began his career in hotel operations before leading RIU’s international expansion, starting with the opening of its first hotel outside Spain in Punta Cana in 1990. Since becoming CEO in 1998, initially alongside his sister Carmen and solely since July 2024, he has driven the brand’s global growth, overseeing over 100 hotels across four continents. Known for his passion for architecture and hotel design, Luis has also introduced innovative concepts like RIU Plaza urban hotels and RIU Party entertainment experiences, while involving his children in the business to continue the family legacy.
