Manny Toribio is a relationship builder, business development expert and a servant leader. He has fifteen years of experience in both the public and private sector. The roles he has held at McClure, Engineering Company, Drake University, City of Prairie City and the City of Des Moines make him a strategic and well-rounded professional. He has always had a passion for developing our cities into thriving communities. Therefore, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Community and Regional Planning and an Urban Design concentration from Iowa State University in 2006. For years later, he earned his Master’s in Public Administration and Public Policy concentration from Drake University. His education, formal training and skills led him to form part of influential organizations in Central Iowa. In his most recent role of Business Development Lead at McClure, he focused on establishing and flourishing client relationships with key players in our state. He had a primary goal of expanding partnerships with local, state and federal representatives. Manny worked closely with the team driving funding strategies. By identifying project opportunities, establishing project teams and preparing scopes of work, he fostered the improvement of lives through smart design. Between 2016 and 2019, Manny served as the Assistant Director of Facilities at Drake University. He managed 100 full-time employees responsible for the maintenance of the campus. This team was responsible for meeting the annual budget of $10 million. In this role, he made sure the team maintained a balanced budget through the years. Manny started his professional trajectory as a Planning Technician for the City of Des Moines back in 2007. With his urban design education, he reviewed sites and other physical development plans for the city. He continued his municipal involvement in the City of Prairie City as a City Administrator. Manny was able to develop and recommend policies for the City Council’s consideration. He enjoyed resolving constituents’ complaints about city services, programs and policies. His passion for our cities and their development motivates him to give back to our communities through board involvement and mentorship. Currently, he is involved with the Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce, Greater Dallas County Development Alliance, the Latino Center of Iowa and Hispanic Educational Resources. In 2021, he was recognized as a Forty under 40 business leader by the Business Record. His commitment to our city and impressive professional journey does not go unnoticed. He is a leader that connects people, mentors upcoming leaders and strives to execute meaningful work to serve the best interest of all people.
