As the Director of Retail Services at NAI Realvest, Mez Birdie brings a wealth of expertise and a specialized focus in the realms of retail, restaurant, and shopping center services. His responsibilities encompass a diverse range of activities, including leasing, brokerage, tenant representation, site selection, build-to-suit projects, sale-leaseback transactions, and overall management. Mez has successfully negotiated brokerage and leasing deals with renowned national retailers and restaurateurs such as Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, CVS, Walgreens, Academy, Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Pier 1, Sports Authority, Ashley, Borders, Dollar Tree, Food Lion, Haverty's, Ross, Captain D’s, Wendy's, Burger King, Denny's, Golden Corral, IHOP, Yum Brands, and other prominent entities.
Prior to his role at NAI, Mez served as the Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Portfolio Management at National Retail Properties, Inc. (NYSE:NNN), a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) specializing in retail properties and listed on the New York Stock Exchange. During his tenure at NNN, Mez played a pivotal role in the acquisition and portfolio management of over 425 retail properties across 40 states, catering to 110 retail tenants and concepts.
Mez is not only an accomplished professional but also actively contributes to the real estate community. He serves as an instructor with the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), where he is involved in reshaping the Marketing & Leasing of Retail Properties course. Furthermore, Mez has authored articles for the Journal of Property Management and delivered multiple presentations at IREM and CCIM annual conventions. His leadership extends to his past presidency of IREM's Central Florida Chapter, earning recognition as CPM of the Year in his Region and Chapter. Mez was also selected to collaborate with a team of Certified Property Managers (CPMs) and Certified Shopping Center Managers (CSMs) in creating an IREM publication titled "Income and Expense Analysis-Shopping Centers."
Beyond his professional achievements, Mez remains actively engaged in the real estate community, serving on the Board of Governors for NRTA, IREM, and the CCIM Institute. His commitment to excellence and leadership positions him as a respected figure in the dynamic landscape of retail and real estate.
