Bio
Back in the mid 1960's it was uncommon for women to work outside the home after they got married. It was even more unusual for a woman to own a business.
But in 1964, Doris Dean became one of the first woman real estate agents in the area, and in 1966 started her own real estate business that still bears her name.
People would seek mother out. She didn't have to advertise. People knew her by word of mouth. Twenty-two years after the company was founded, I took the reins of the business. It was my intention to maintain the same small office and one-on-one attention that had been the hallmark of Mother's business since its inception.
I was licensed to sell real estate in 1974 and went to work with Mother. I remember working with no Multiple Listing Service. I would drive around town looking for "For Sale" signs, then call the listing companies to find out the price and information. We would keep index cards on all these properties. Times have really changed!!
I have seen many clients through the purchase and selling of more than one house. We've handled some houses for more than 30 years. I am now selling homes to the grandchildren of my mother's clients.
The office at 207-A Country Club Blvd. is my family home. Built in the 1920's, it is a building that once was the dining/ballroom for Miler Country Club. My father James F. Dean bought the building in 1959 and converted it into four living units.
I have resided in Summerville since 1955. My family moved here when my father was sent to the area to supervise construction of the Giant Mix Cement plant near Harleyville. I attended Summerville schools and the University of South Carolina.
I have many reasons for continued success. I was raised with a strong work ethic, I enjoy people and love this community. In addition to my work, I make time for various activities. I am past president and member of the Summerville Theater Guild, past president of the Board of Directorsw of the Flowertown Players where I am a member, and a member of the Timrod Library, Summerville Preservation Society and the Frances R. Willis S.P.C.A. I am a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where I served on the vestry and was president of the Episcopal Church Women. My main hobby is golf. I am a member of the Miler Country Club and past president of the Miler Ladies Golf Association.
