O. Jay is a native Oregonian. He moved to Bend in 1970. His Real Estate experience began early in life working on the family commercial and rental properties in Eugene. He bought his first house here in Bend at age 18, and purchased the adjoining lots thereafter.
He is an accomplished skier and golfer. His Ski achievements included many magazine covers, and 1983 Nastar Ski Race Champion, which help catapult him to a 27 year career in the ski wholesale and retail industry, including President/Owner of Skjersaa’s Ski Shop of Bend from 1996-2005, and Regional Sales Manager for Volkl Skis for 13 years. In 1995, O Jay passed the PGA of America Players Ability Test, and was a PGA Asst. Professional.
Since 1994 O. Jay has been active in Real Estate development and held Broker/Agent licenses in California, Nevada, and Oregon. His Real Estate business experience includes buying, selling, designing, changing property entitlements, acquiring land use and building permits, and writing CC&R’s. His Real Estate projects and sales include Retail, Rental, Residential, Multi-Unit Residential Properties, a PUD of 55 home sites, Light Industrial property, initial Design & Planning for a 235,000sf shopping center, a manufactured home park conversion, acquisition and sale of Hotel and Storage Unit Complex sites, and multiple Estate-type developments.
Mr. Merrill is also a long-time part of our community as 2 time PTA President of Highland School, PTA President of Central Oregon, Site Council for Highland School, and Oregon State PTA Board of Directors member. He previously served on the Oregon Ski Industries Association Board of Directors.
O. Jay’s foremost contribution to Bend: Creator/Founder/Director of Bend WinterFest.
The WinterFest vision was to raise awareness for Bend’s Winter Activities, while contributing money to Local Charities such as The Kid’s Center, Boys and Girls Club, Every Kid Fund, to name a few. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised, and many lives have been helped. Bend’s WinterFest has enjoyed 20 plus years of continued growth and success!
He is the proud father of two young daughters ages 21 and 23. They remind him daily about his love for Skiing, Golf, Tennis, Wildlife, Oregon, the Arts, and life in general.
