Bio
Owen Rice is an executive vice president at Hughes Marino, an award-winning commercial real estate firm that exclusively represents tenants and buyers, never landlords. Owen has been recognized as one of the most successful and trusted office leasing real estate advisors in the Puget Sound. He has been consistently lauded by his peers, both industry-wide and internally, over the past several years.
In addition to his expertise in corporate real estate services, Owen has specialized knowledge of the Seattle area biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. His experience in this unique market segment allows him to understand the challenges life science companies face. As a result, Owen has built a reputation as one of the leading representatives of life science companies in the Northwest, with transactions that include laboratory, R&D, and medical manufacturing space. Some of his clients include CMC Biologics, Quest Diagnostics and Impel NeuroPharma.
From Fortune 500 companies to smaller one-off transactions, Owen has assisted his clients with hundreds of office and headquarters relocations, lease renewals, subleases and multi-market leasing requirements both domestically and internationally, supporting each transaction with market leading research and both quantitative and qualitative analysis. He has been instrumental in developing complicated, strategic real estate tactics to achieve his client’s business objectives while maximizing their profitability. Owen has been responsible for managing both domestic and international real estate portfolios in aggregate of 3+ million SF for companies such F5 Networks, Redfin and Safeco Insurance.
Owen has also played an integral role in some of the largest, most complex commercial transactions in downtown Seattle. Owen has represented companies such as Lane Powell on their 115,000 SF renewal and most recently, Owen assisted Providence Health & Services in consolidating their administrative functions to a single 230,000 SF space in downtown Seattle. Further, Owen was part of a team that was instrumental in a comprehensive move for Holland America Lines, reducing their footprint from 245,000 SF to 175,000 SF and saving them approximately $40 million on the total value of their lease.
Most impressive, however, is the unsolicited feedback Owen receives from his clients. They love his approach as a strategic planner and creative thinker. Owen seeks to understand and serve his clients with exceptionally high integrity and honesty. His clients admire his consistent demonstration of commitment and loyalty to their organization. As an advisor, Owen believes that corporate real estate is meant to support the operational and cultural goals for each of his clients. His approach combines a focus on understanding the organizational values of his clients with a unique forecasting platform that enables him to advise his clients on a variety of possible futures.
Owen believes and lives by Hughes Marino’s core values, which guide everything he does. His enthusiasm is infectious and the philosophy by which he runs his business is what makes him such a valuable asset to those he serves. Owen resides in West Seattle with his wife and two children. In his spare time, he enjoys running ultra-trail marathons, mountaineering and fly fishing.
