Richard’s background is closely tied to two of Oklahoma’s largest industries, energy and agriculture. The Hefner family has been extensively involved in virtually every phase of the oil and gas business since his parents, Bonnie and Raymond Hefner, started Bonray in 1957. They have owned and operated exploration and production, investment and contract drilling companies in both the public and private sectors. The Bonray name has been added to a family of different companies involved in energy investments, energy services, real estate, and land management. Their agricultural activities include cattle ranching operations in four different counties in Oklahoma. They are predominately a cow/calf operation with some seasonal stocker grazing. Canadian Valley Ranch LP is a family owned operation that is involved in beef production from the pasture to the plate. Their operations across the state range from intensive grazing programs on improved pastures and wheat to native prairie.
Richard graduated from Heritage Hall High School in 1978, and from Oklahoma State University in 1982. He was President/CEO of Bonray Drilling Corporation from 1990 until they sold the company in 1997. He is the owner of Canadian Valley Ranch, Manager of Bonray Real Estate, L.L.C., President and Director of Bonray, Inc., President and Director of HBH Holding general partner and Manager of Bonray Natural Resource Management, LLC
