Scott Johnston joined Cushman & Wakefield’s Government Services Group in 2016, with over 26 years of real estate experience with the Federal Government. Previously, Scott was with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank's Washington, DC office which he joined in 2007. As a Principal, Mr. Johnston led the Washington, DC office's Landlord Group and the Government Services Group nationally. In his 20+ years of real estate experience, he negotiated and consummated leases valued in excess of $6 billion and totaling in excess of 17 million square feet on behalf of investors, private sector tenants and federal government tenants. In addition, Mr. Johnston has been responsible for supervising the repositioning of 10 buildings totaling over 2.8 million square feet. Mr. Johnston has also been involved in a number of sales transactions involving federally tenanted buildings - TSA Headquarters, Pentagon City, VA, 540,000 square feet; IRS Service Center, Austin TX, 140,000 square feet; Undisclosed Agency, Arlington, VA, 115,000 square feet.
Prior to joining Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, Mr. Johnston was a senior vice president with Jones Lang LaSalle and Spaulding & Slye, where he was a leader of the Investor Services and the Government Investor Services teams. Mr. Johnston was the team leader for the group that was the first outside brokerage to be contracted to represent the GSA in its search, negotiations and procurement of space for federal agencies. Preceding that, he was a vice president and director of leasing for Blake Real Estate, Inc.
Mr. Johnston has been recognized in many capacities, such as the GWCAR (2001) and WDCAR (2005) Realtor of the Year, the Washington Business Journal Deal of the Year, Best Lease (2000 and 2010), GWCAR Leasing Transaction of the Year (1994, 1996, 2001, 2002 and 2010) and as an adjunct professor at George Washington University.
Mr. Johnston attended Duke University, earning a B.A. in History and Political Science. He also received an M.B.A. in Finance and Real Estate from George Washington University.
