Stefan was born in Chicago and raised in Highland Park & Lake Forest. He graduated from Lake Forest Academy and the University of Denver. He was a police officer for Delavan Township in Wisconsin prior to entering the Chicagoland electrical industry in 1978 with Shamrock Electric. After a
year in Shamrock’s Elk Grove Village headquarters office, he was sent to Atlantic City, New Jersey to run a newly
purchased subsidiary during the dawn of casinos on the infamous Atlantic City Boardwalk.
