Steve Baur, DPT, Chief Operating Officer, oversees clinical and business operations for all MedStar Visiting Nurse Association agencies in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. He also leads homecare rehabilitative services – physical, occupational and speech therapies – across all four MedStar VNA agencies. Baur’s keen focus on expanding and enhancing therapy practices sets the organization apart from its competitors. While overseeing daily homecare operations, Baur maximizes technology and communication mediums to ensure the remote clinical workforce stays connected to patient needs, improving outcomes and ensuring the highest level of quality care possible. Included in his oversight is the newly established Department of Clinical Support Services. This department adds a complementary layer of support to daily clinical operations, while being instrumental in deploying telehealth initiatives, programs, and remote monitoring services.
Since joining MedStar VNA in 2011, Baur quickly rose into leadership roles including care manager, assistant regional operations director, interim regional operations director, and vice president of Therapy Services. Baur’s years of experience as a homecare physical therapist allow him to quickly identify opportunities to improve processes, manage performance, maximize technology resources, and leverage associates’ strengths.
In 2015, Governor Larry Hogan appointed Baur to the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners where he served consecutive appointed terms, ending in 2019. He is also a 13-year member of the American Physical Therapy Association and maintains PT licensure in all three jurisdictions he oversees. Baur earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Maryland at College Park and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Medicine.
