Steve began his real estate career in 2010 at the JBG companies after meeting two of the executives at a bar and convincing them to give him a shot. He excelled at JBG, and within six years he and became their youngest Vice President and Principal Broker. He had carved out a niche in mixed-use development, known for his "place-making" approach and ability to bring in high-paying national tenants. After finding such success at JBG, he moved on to found his own brokerage shop in 2016, District Equities.
Steve works with a wide array of tenants, from industry leading national businesses like Trader Joe’s and Warby Parker to award winning local restaurants and breweries. Steve maintains the highest quality standards, demonstrating a uniquely successful track record that includes over 95% of tenants remaining open for business for the duration of their lease. In addition to his transactional real estate success, Steve is also an equity investor in numerous businesses, he opened a food hall as a joint venture partner, and he served on the board of Union Kitchen. Steve’s knack for excellent retail brokerage has gained him regional and national recognition, including a spot in the Washington Business Journal’s 40 under 40.
With exposure to a broad spectrum of growing businesses as a retail broker and entrepreneur, Steve has an eye for a good business. He helped District Dogs owner, Jacob Hensley, open his first brick and mortar dog daycare. It was apparent early on that District Dogs was something special, and now six years later, that testament continues to ring true. Over the years working with Steve, District Dogs has become an industry leader providing top notch dog daycare, boarding, and grooming. District Dogs was chosen by Amazon as the first retail lease for their HQ2 after an exhaustive process surveying over 25 other dog daycare businesses. Given their overwhelming success, Steve and Jacob have partnered, combining their passions for growing small businesses and real estate, to roll the national franchising of District Dogs.
When he’s not delivering high-quality mixed-use development or creating his next business opportunity, Steve enjoys spending time with his family. He cherishes his wife Jordan and his two dogs, Charlie and Asher. Steve is passionate about music, he used to play bass in a band called NAMES. He is also an avid outdoorsman, spending time camping and fishing, but finds that nothing beats the thrill of chasing a perfect powder day on his snowboard.
