Bio
As the President and founder of Avenue Commercial, Steven has over thirty years of personal and professional experience in real estate sales, leasing and development. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario after studying English, History and Economics. He has worked across Canada and extensively in Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan. His father began his real estate career in Ontario over 50 years ago, where Steven first became exposed to commercial real estate. Steven worked in the family business for many years before relocating to Calgary approximately 30 years ago. He started his own company and has been in commercial real estate ever since. Avenue Commercial is a full service commercial real estate firm with its Head Office located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 2009 Steven Butt was commissioned by the Court of Alberta to work with the receivership team of Ernst and Young on the $ 250M Concrete Equities receivership file which became the largest real estate portfolio in the history of Canada to ever be brought out of receivership. In recognition of his contribution to the file, Steven was presented with the coveted Tombstone Award. The litigation on the file lasted over 3 years and was comprised of over 72 entities in two countries. The positive outcome of this receivership file saved the investments of over 3,000 investors. In 2013 the courts again appointed Steven Butt and the Avenue team as General Partner of another large distressed Limited Partnership Group in Edmonton, Alberta. This group was comprised of over 1,800 people who had invested in excess of $140M into a mixed portfolio consisting of two Office Condominiums, a 156 unit residential complex, 160 Acres of development land, 141 unit residential condominium development and 10 retail centers. During the following three years, the Avenue team repaired, refinanced, built and repositioned the bankrupt asset and improved the tenancy of all properties and are currently structuring a distribution program.
