Susan Pates is a seasoned real-estate broker of 34 years who lives and works in Historic Downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia. She has represented both buyers and sellers in residential, commercial, and farm-and-land sales. Her recent residential sales in the Historic District include the Marye House at 1111 Princess Anne Street and the Cox House at 510 George Street. She represented the sellers in the sale of the commercial Historic Frederick Street warehouses and the lots on Charles Street. In Spotsylvania, she sold Historic "Oakley Farm" and assisted in the sale of the 2900-acre "Oakley Forest" bought for preservation by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Raised on a farm in Orange County, Virginia, Mrs. Pates graduated from Mary Washington College and has a Master's degree from the University of Virginia. For several years. she resided in Washington and worked as a legislative assistant to Senator John Glenn and Senator Lloyd Bentsen. Mrs. Pates served as Chair of the Board of Equalization and is presently a member of the Historic District's Architectural Review Board. Her husband of 42 years, Attorney James M. Pates, and she took a worldwide sabbatical for two years in 2004. They have one daughter, Anne Morgan Pates, who works as her marketing assistant and is fluent in French.
