Bio
Athan "Tom" Prakas is a Delray Beach resident and owner of the Prakas Group, a commercial real estate brokerage company specializing in restaurant, nightclub and commercial properties, located in Boca Raton. Through his years of experience and remarkable vision for the industry, Prakas and his company put Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach on the map as a hot and trendy hang out with some of the best cuisine in South Florida. Originally from Portsmouth, Ohio, Prakas grew up in Columbus and has 25 years experience in the restaurant, nightclub, and sports bar industry. He owned 27 popular establishments throughout Ohio, Georgia, and South Florida. "I knew I wanted to be in the industry after I vacationed in Fort Lauderdale for spring break during college, and I even modeled one of my first nightclubs in Toledo, Ohio, after a nightclub in Fort Lauderdale," said Prakas Locally, he was the originator of alternative music clubs in Palm Beach County with the establishment of The Dark Side in Delray Beach and Moscow in West Palm Beach. He also owned and operated The Spot, a sports-rock cafe in West Palm Beach, and brought the popularity of cigar smoking to Boca Raton by establishing The Cigar Bar. After many successful years and colorful experiences in the biz, Prakas decided to use his hands-on knowledge and become #1 real estate broker. Prakas and his group have sold over 100 restaurants and nightclubs in the last four years, including the sale of the Delray Beach Yacht Club, the First Union Building in Delray Beach, numerous other shopping centers and commercial properties. The Prakas Group is noted for the sales and leases of very prominent restaurants such as Sopra, City Oyster and Copenhagen, and nightclubs such as The Falcon House, DaDa, and Delux, all located in downtown Delray Beach. "I feel really good about what's happening in Delray, the mix of the right restaurants and nightclubs on Atlantic Avenue compliment each other and I'm proud of the part I'm playing in the development," said Prakas. Currently, projects in Delray Beach include the sale of the 80,000-square-foot retail center, Lake Ida Plaza. The Prakas Group will be the leasing agent for the shopping center's new owner. That same vision also contributed to the success of Clematis Street in West Palm Beach and Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Prakas hopes to keep working closely with these cities and other developers to increase revenue and watch the areas flourish and grow. "The key to a successful establishment is knowing your demographics, because the failure rate is high and even if the concept is great, the location may be wrong," said Prakas. Prakas and his company are visionaries and contribute to shaping the nightlife and generating revenue in cities across South Florida. The Prakas Group will continue helping clients find the right space for their particular need. "It is important to have a broker or consultant you can trust," he said. In Prakas, South Florida can trust.
