Led by Chairman and CEO James “Jamie” Dimon, JPMorgan Chase & Co. is the largest bank in the world by market capitalization at $575 billion at the end of 2024 Q1; and it is the largest bank in America by the value of their total assets. The firm reports $2.9 trillion in assets under management (AUM) as of December 31, 2023.
Chase Manhattan Bank purchased JP Morgan & Company for nearly $31B in 2000 and formed JP Morgan Chase. Since the merger, notable acquisitions include Bear Sterns and Washington Mutual’s banking operations during the financial crisis of 2008, and the purchase of First Republic Bank in 2023.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. is broken up into their two flagship brands: J.P. Morgan and Chase Bank. J.P. Morgan is the investment bank arm that, and Chase Bank has a focus on commercial banking, and personal banking.
