In the late 1800s, a vine was found in an old house in the Italian region, Campania. This vine survived an infestation, phylloxera, that destroyed the local vineyards. A local man, Prisco Scirocco, restored and replanted this vine for the production of red wine, which became very popular in the surrounding area. According to legend, locals would say, “Let’s go and get the cuttings of the grapes born in that old house.” This explains the name of this wine: Casavecchia. We admire the underdog story, as this vine survived against all odds. And we appreciate the old house, reminding us where we came from.
