Simon Property Group (NYSE: "SPG") is a real estate investment trust (REIT) headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, and they are the largest owner of shopping malls and outlet centers in the world. The company’s total assets under management (AUM) are valued at $33.7 billion across 230 properties (centers) comprising 183 million square feet in North America, Asia, and Europe.
Simon Property Group was founded by brothers Melvin and Herbert Simon in 1960. In 1993, Simon's IPO raised $840M and was the largest REIT IPO to date at that time. In 1995 CEO David Simon took the helm. Simon has grown their portfolio organically by developing malls, and through M&A, merging with companies such as DeBartolo Realty Corporation in 1996 and The Kravco Company in 2003.
Simon's portfolio includes their core luxury and full-price shopping centers, Simon Premium Outlets, The Mills properties, Taubman Centers, and a significant international presence.
